Chapter 14: Canoeing
and
Kayaking
at
Lake Marie Lodge

Canoeing and Kayaking

We make canoe trips that go through untouched pristine wilderness areas virtually from our doorstep. We go on trips for one afternoon, all day, and overnight. After several days of hard fishing, a quiet afternoon (or overnight) canoe trip might be what you need.

Kayaking in front of Mt. McKinley (Denali), and Mt. Foraker. Denali is on the right

We have several different types of trips:

Leave from the Lodge and canoe down the river as far as you can paddle and float in a specific amount of time. You will be picked up by boat after several hours or all day.

Go by jet boat upriver several miles and canoe back down to the landing

Paddle up several creeks as far as a canoe will go and drift back down. One creek in particular goes over 10 miles. Every 1/2 mile, there are active beaver dams (some over 4 feet high) which back up water to the dam above it. We are able to portage over dam after dam while going through areas virtually untouched by man.

Go by jet boat many miles up the main rivers and portage overland to streams in different watersheds. Canoe down these streams and creeks and be picked up at the mouths.

These quiet trips through the wilderness offer the best opportunity to observe and photograph wildlife up close, especially Moose, nesting Trumpeter Swans, Otters, and Beavers.
