....I have been to Alaska 19 years in a row. I discovered Lake Marie Lodge about 5 or 6 years ago. I have been back to LML four times and am planning for next summer...I have caught more rainbow and salmon in different types of water than you can imagine.

Our Fishing Program

At Lake Marie Lodge, we offer remote and secluded Salmon and Rainbow Trout fishing at its finest. We offer a variety of types of fishing such as spin fishing, bait casting, and fly fishing. We fish many different rivers, creeks, and streams and catch all five species of Pacific Salmon. We also catch Rainbow Trout, Arctic Grayling, Northern Pike, and Dolly Varden/Arctic Char.

"Location, Location, Location"

One of the primary reasons why we have such outstanding fishing is because of our unique location in relation to fishing creeks and streams.

There are 3 major river systems within 3 miles (2 within 1 mile).

There are 7 streams within 3 miles that salmon run (4 within 1 1/4 miles).

Within a 20 mile radius of the Lodge, Salmon run in 5 major lakes, 8 rivers, and over 35 streams.

We regularly fish over 10 different creeks and streams, ranging from fishing the mouth only in one, to fishing the entire length of another. We fish a variety of different sized streams ranging from small (ankle deep) to larger (waist deep). Because of our location, we have had some groups fish a new stream everyday for a week, although most groups fish 4 or 5 different streams and then double up on the real hot ones.

Travel Days

On your 2 travel days, (the day you fly to the lodge, and the day you fly back to Anchorage), you will enjoy almost a full day of fishing. On your arrival day at the lodge, you can fish up to about 10 hours. On your departure day, you can fish about 6-10 hours depending on how early you decide to get up and start fishing.

Lake Marie Lodge is located only 45 minutes from Anchorage, so it does not take a half day, or even a whole day, to get to the lodge like some other lodges in Alaska. Many lodges require Guests to fly to a village on a commercial flight, (usually in mid day), and then catch a boat or an airplane to the lodge location. This usually takes all day, and even if they are not claiming they are charging you for the travel days, it is still part of your vacation time and is part of the "lodge package."

Arrival Day Fishing

After enjoying a scenic 45 minute flight from Anchorage, your fishing begins shortly after landing on the airstrip next to the lodge. After a quick tour of the lodge and quick change, you're off to the streams.

Our Guests usually leave Anchorage about 8:00 or 9:00 am, arriving at the lodge 45 minutes later. This early start is planned to give you as long a first day of fishing as we can. After arriving at the lodge and getting settled in, you are soon headed out with Guide to fish. Dinner is served at 7:00 pm, but if the fishing is hot at that time, many Guests just keep fishing! If you do come back for dinner, there's always fishing after dinner as well.

This ease of going from Anchorage to the lodge, and then to the fishing streams on your arrival day is one advantage to our Fishing Program. This "ease of fishing" is important on a 7 day/6 night trip, however it is vital on a 4 day/3 night trip where your travel time takes on added importance.

Departure Day Fishing

On the last day of your trip, you will be able to fish all day until we need to meet the airplane about 4 or 5:00 p.m. for the flight back to Anchorage.

Most Guests fish in the morning and early afternoon, and then head back to the Lodge to pack and shower. We do, however, have a few die hard anglers who pack their bags the night before and fish their entire last day, right up until they see the plane arriving.

It is also possible to get up a little early to squeeze a few more hours in. We are very flexible in our fishing schedule and our Guides are happy to take you out as often as possible.

You will usually fly back to Anchorage about 4 or 5:00 pm, arriving 45 minutes later. Most of our Guests then catch midnight flights back to their hometowns. This seems to work very well, and doesn't require you to spend the night in a hotel, saving both money and time. If you have an early flight leaving Anchorage, we can usually schedule an earlier departure from the lodge to accommodate this.

Quality Fishing on your Travel Days

It is very important for a lodge to have quality fishing nearby for you on your two traveling days.

It is important for you to choose a lodge that has great fishing on your two travel days (when you are flying in to the lodge and when you are flying back to town). It is hard to believe, but some lodges do not allow you to fish on your two travel days. These lodges are usually large in size, own several airplanes, and do their own flying. Even with several airplanes, a lodge cannot transfer 20 Guests (much less 30-40) to town and return with 20 more and still have time to take you fishing. Even if the lodge only has to carry 20 guests one way (for example, from town to the lodge), there usually isn't enough time for you to safely fly out again to fish on the same day. The airplanes may also be tied up flying the other remaining Guests in and out to fish.

Even if they claim they are not charging you for these days, it is still part of the overall lodge fishing package and is wasting part of your vacation time.
