To-toy-lon River Lodge, Alaska
| Our To-toy-lon River Lodge is very unique in that it is located on the only piece of private property on a 20-mile long clear water river that is home to giant runs of King Salmon and Silver Salmon (Coho). It also has Pink Salmon, Sockeye Salmon, and Chum Salmon, as well as fantastic Rainbow Trout, Arctic Grayling, and Dolly Varden fishing. Since this is the only piece of property on the entire river, your fishing will be some of the most remote and private in the world. This isolated setting allows you to cast to unpressured fish; many have never been fished to before. You will land at our private airstrip, just yards from the Lodge, and your Cabins. Since we are only about an hour from Anchorage, your fly-in day will be filled with many hours of fishing. Also, on your fly-out back to Anchorage day, you can usually fish to about 4 or 5:00 PM. |

The Setting: The lodge is located right on the water, which allows for almost non-stop fishing action. We fish a total of 3 different streams and rivers from this location. You and your Guide will usually head out every day to fish a different section of the river. We use ATV's and jeeps on our trails to access these sections. In the morning and evening, there is great fishing right out of your front door. Some of the better fishing holes are in front of the lodge so there is always lots of fishing action. |

Here's a nice Rainbow Trout caught in front of the cabins. |
|
| We fish quite a bit right in front of the cabins, before breakfast, and after dinner. During the day, your Guide will take you to a section of one of the rivers and streams we can access from this lodge. The To-toy-lon River Lodge is located a couple hundred yards from the confluence with a larger river. This close proximity to the confluence ensures that there is a daily turnover of the fish holding in front of the lodge. In the morning, while waiting for breakfast, you may catch several king salmon just feet from your cabin door, and in the evening, in the same hole, you may catch some of the biggest rainbows of your trip. It changes daily, and sometimes hourly as new fish come into the river and push the other fish upstream. Of course the rainbows, especially the bigger ones, cruise up and down the river to feed near the spawning salmon. |

The Accommodations:
At our deluxe Lake Marie Lodge, we have a bathroom in every bedroom, along with 2 queen-sized beds, however at the To-toy-lon River Lodge, the accommodations are more rustic. You will be staying in basic cabins with single beds. The bathroom and showers are located in the main building along with the dining area, kitchen, and lounge area. For our Guests who like to concentrate on fishing, and prefer a little rustic charm, then this is the lodge for you, however if you want your own private bathroom, queen-sized bed, and other amenities, then Lake Marie Lodge would be the best choice. |

The To-toy-lon River |
|
The To-toy-lon River is a 20-mile long river with the headwaters in the mountains of Denali National Park and Preserve. It is a clear water river with good runs of all 5 species of Pacific Salmon. The King Salmon and Silver Salmon (Coho) runs are especially good. Because of the great salmon runs, the Rainbow Trout are plentiful and attain a large size. The Arctic Grayling fishing is outstanding due to the cold clear water of the river. The Grayling hit almost any dry fly and are a blast to fish! |

Since the water is usually clear, as seen in the picture to the left, most of the Rainbow fishing is sight fishing. |
| We have miles and miles of spawning salmon areas, which attract all the Rainbows for miles around. This is the time to fish. | ![]() |
Mousing for Rainbows
![]() |
Over the course of the last several years, we have been mousing more and more for Rainbows. We have found that even though they are gorging on salmon eggs and flesh, the Rainbows, especially the larger ones, will readily rise and hit a mouse. The larger Rainbows don't seem to mind going from subsurface eggs to hitting on the top.
It is great fun to entice a big one up from the bottom of the stream and watch him as he follows and then strikes the mouse! |
We use many versions of the Mouse Pattern, as every one of our Guides tie slightly different patterns. They all seem to work. |

The Dolly Varden fishing is good also, especially in the "Braids", such as the fish at the left. |
| The Arctic Grayling fishing in the To-toy-lon River is great with dry flies. The Grayling really seem to like the cold clear water and are always on the lookout for any bug on the surface. |

There's not a lot that can match the fun of dry fly fishing for Arctic Grayling.

As well as the King Salmon that we catch, we also have a good Silver Salmon (also known as Coho) run. In addition to this, we have Sockeye Salmon, Chum Salmon, and Pink Salmon.
Last year we had several Guests catch the "Grand Slam", all 5 species of Pacific Salmon in one week. One fisherman even did it in one day! |
